Abstract

Although domes have been around for a long time, they are still sometimes considered as unique or unusual structures. Insulated domes have been built for a multitude of uses for many years throughout the world. An interest in domes for architectural applications, however, has not been as great as for industrial domes, but that is changing. Domes provide tangible benefits—safety, durability, and economy—features which are desirable in all structures no matter what their shape. So why are domes now becoming the shape of the future? Domes are ideally suited for architectural applications. Because they are completely span-free, they are excellent for athletic facilities, schools, auditoriums, churches, convention halls, museums, and homes. In structures where open spaces contribute to functionality, domes are the perfect design choice. The designer has total flexibility in the layout of rooms. This thesis present experimental studying structural behavior of the spherical domes and research to provide the type of domes are available in which the following factors, High durability, Providing safety, Reduce Cost ,Aesthetic forms, Ease of implementation and weather resistant. it is not available on the condition that all these factors combined 100%
but the goal is to get on the type of when these factors are available at rates to end what is good and commensurate with each. This may be considered a suitable technique to use in developing countries eighteen domes were built employing three different types of materials concrete, light weight bricks and Ferro cement. Twelve with opening and six domes without openings were subjected to uniformly monatomic axial in plane loads. All domes having the dimensioned of IV 100cm diameter, 50 cm. height and 5cm thickness. Different parameters were taken into consideration during this study; type of material, domes with Opening or without opening, type of wire mesh-fabric, the shape of opening and absence or presence of polypropylene fiber. Different properties were determined. The deformation characteristics of the tested panels were determined and compared in this investigation, such as crack pattern, failure mode, the cracking, failure loads, displacement and strain. Studying different types of domes have found on Ferro cement domes with wire steel mesh have High durability, medium cost about 70% of reinforced concrete domes and weight us about 70% of reinforced concrete We get on the type of Ferro cement domes these factors are available at rates to end what is good and commensurate with each. The domes without opening it is the least in displacement, the next in displacement the dome with two window openings and the last it has door open. Many conclusions , relations , and recommendation that may be useful for designs and applications uses obtained and introduced the pronounced improvement in the domes characteristics makes the use of this method an effective contracture domes technique.
