Abstract The present work deals with the quantitative and computerized well logging analysis of eight wells on the north part of the Western Desert. This study is carried out on the Bahariya Formation. The analytical well logging system followed in this evaluation is started by recalibrating and correcting the logging data of the chosen boreholes. The shale volume is evaluated and the produced results are corrected through The shale increases toward the west and east directions. The application of the Dia-Porosity Crossplots is used to dominant the shale types These shale models are helpful in choosing and determining the total water saturation of the study area. Petrophysical logs provide most of the subsurface data available to an exploration geologist. There are valuable tools for mapping and identifying lithologies. Four techniques are presented here as following: (1) ρb - ΦN plots, (2) M – N plot, (3) mid plot, and (4) Th – K. Formation porosities (total, effective and secondary) are determined. And The determination of the total water saturation of the study area is based on the suitable shale model. Archie’s formula (1942) is used to determine the total water saturation in the clean rocks. The accurate determination of water saturation depends on the determination of the petrophysical exponents (m, n and a) through Pickett’s plot, which depends on from shale distribution map and porosity distribution map, the effective porosity increases in the direction where shale content decreases. The southeast area considered the best area for drilling and access the Bahariya Formation. |
