Abstract Amniotomy IS a common obstetric operation. There is a world-wide belief among obstetricians that it facilitates the progress of labour. Most of researchers agree that arnniotomy is a safe procedure and carnes no hazardous effects for both the mother and her fetus/infant. In the recent years scientific work was directed to determine the optimal timing of amniotomy and whether membrane rupture early in the process of induction offers significant advantage. This prospective study aimed at demonstrating the risklbenefit relationship for both early and delayed arnniotomy. Sixty women were enrolled m the study and randomly divided into two groups according to the time of amniotomy at induction. Both groups were well matched as regard their general characteristics. Comparison was performed evaluation between early and late arnniotomy on the basis of the impact of each type on the progress of labour, fetal well-being neonatal outcome and enhancement of intrauterine infection. This study revealed that advantage of early arnniotomy III reducing the duration of labour while it gave the superiority to late arnniotomy on looking a perinatal outcome. |
