Abstract Our study was designed to evaluate conventional echocardiography by its modalities with pulsed wave tissue Doppler modalities and strain &strain rate modalities as methods of early detection of cardiac dysfunction. Our populations were ladies whom suffer from non metastatic breast cancer with normal hearts before therapy and did not have any cardiac risk factors as diabetes mellitus, hypertension and valvular diseases. Their laboratory results were normal and were not treated by chemotherapy or radiotherapy before. They were treated in Alexandria university hospitals oncology department by FAC protocol (5-Florouracil 500 mg/m2, Adriamycin 50 mg/m2, Cyclophosphamide 500 mg/m2) in six sessions with 21 days between each cycle. Assessment was done two times; before therapy and after the end of the sixth and last cycle. Our results showed the following As regard the conventional echocardiographic parameters M-mode measurements LVEDD & LVESD were significantly increased after therapy while EF% & FS% were significantly decreased after therapy but not to reach significant statistical level. Diastolic function E value, A value and E/A ratio were no significant difference appears between the first and last measurement but E-DT was significantly increased after therapy. Pulse wave tissue Doppler assessment of the mitral flow The values of E & A waves did not change significantly after therapy. The values of S wave were significantly decreased after therapy. As regard strain and strain rate Strain measures • The values of septal strain, lateral strain, anterior strain and inferior strain were no significant difference appears between the first and last measurement. Strain rate measures • The values of septal strain rate, lateral strain rate, anterior strain rate and the inferior strain rate were no significant difference appears between the first and last measurement. |
