Abstract

Each patient received at least one pair of restorations. The distribution of material type and tooth location was randomized. The cavity design was restricted to eliminate carious tissues from primary caries lesions. No beveling was performed. Calcium hydroxide was placed in deep areas. All materials were used according to the respective manufacturers’ directions. Composite resin were incrementally applied (2 mm-thick layers) and light cured. Occlusal adjustment was performed and excess restorative material was removed then restorations were finally finished and polished under water-cooling. All restorations were subjected to a periodic clinical follow up schedule at baseline, after 6 months and 12 months during which, two investigators rated the restorations according to the modified USPHS criteria regarding marginal integrity, surface roughness, marginal discoloration, color match, anatomic form (wear), recurrent caries, retention ofrestoration, postoperative sensitivity.
