Abstract The investigation was aimed to study one of the environmental and community problems of food contamination by pathogenic and toxigenic microorganisms such as Listeria spp. Sharkia Governorate was the scope of the present study to update information about incidence of Listeria spp. in dairy and meat products. Five cities covering most of Sharkia district which are Zagazig, Abo Kabir, Kafr Sakr, Salhia and Fakoos were chosen to study the incidence of Listeria spp. in samples of meat products such as frozen lean beef, raw lean beef, frozen chicken; and dairy products such as unpasteurized raw milk, Zabady and Kareesh cheese. These food samples were chosen in this study because those food products were expected to be the main vehicles of Listeria infection in Egypt, where transport of foods occurs sometimes under unrefrigerated conditions without special care |
