Abstract

Diarrhea means, increased frequency and /or fluidity of stool relative to the patient own habits. Episodes of diarrhea lasting for less than 14 days are defined as acute, episodes lasting for 14 or more days are defined as persistent .Some experts estimate that up to 50% of diarrhea deaths may be due to persistent diarrhea . The contribution of persistent diarrhea to overall diarrhea mortality is increasing. In addition, persistent diarrhea may adversely affect nutritional status and is often associated with malnutrition.Food allergies, described as adverse immune responses to food, are common and have increased in prevalence during the past decades. About 5% of the young children are affected today .Of these, cow’s milk is the most frequent food causing allergyamong infants and young children with a prevalence ranging from 1 to about 7.5%. Proper management of milk allergy is important due to the low but serious risk of anaphylaxis. Fortunately most children recover spontaneously from their allergy and develop tolerance to cow’s milk until they reach 5 years of age.
