Abstract

Schools that are well prepared for an emergency involving a student or staff member are prepared for complex events such as pandemic acute respiratory disease. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of implementing emergency preparedness plan for acute respiratory diseases at Mansoura primary schools. The study was carried out in four governmental primary schools affiliated to ministry of education in Mansoura city as representative of urban and rural environments. Study subjects were recruited from the fourth grade pupils from the second semester (2011-2012) to second semester (2012-2013).the subjects of the study included 424 pupils these pupils were assigned randomly into two groups: study group which included 212 pupils and control group which included 212 pupils, 8 managers these mangers were assigned into two groups: study group which included 4 managers and control group which included 4 managers, 154 teacher were assigned randomly into two groups: study group which included 83 teacher and control group which included 71 teacher,19 worker were assigned randomly into two groups: study group which included 8 worker and control group which included 11 worker. Study results revealed that the entire study group (pupils, teachers, management team and workers) showed a significant impact, as there was a remarkable increase in knowledge and practices after the implementation of the educational program, resulting highly statistical significant difference between control and study groups regards ARDs knowledge and practices.
