Abstract The Power system stabilizers (PSS) are installed in the power system network at the synchronous generator in order to improve the power system stability by damping out low frequency oscillations in the power system. For this reason, the methods of design the PSS taken a wide range of research during the past decades, Evolutionary algorithms (EAs) has been used to design the PSS during the last two decades, that they are used efficiently to solve nonlinear and multi-objective optimization problems. These algorithms include Genetic algorithm (GA), Tabu search algorithm (TS), simulated annealing (SA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and Differential Evolution Algorithm (DEA). In this thesis, the PSS is designed using a proposed DE algorithm by minimizing the objective function (minimizing oscillation in rotor speed and angle). The design of the PSS is carried out at a specific operating point as well as multiple operating points. The DEA–based PSS is designed and tested for both single machine- infinite bus system and multi- machine system. Single operating point and multiple operating points are two cases for the design of the PSS. Matlab and SIMULINK are used for modeling and design the PSS using DE algorithm. |
