Abstract
Background and objectives: In the current study as undertaken the epidemiology of ovarian cancer in Sharkia, there are modalties we evaluate the ovarian cancer, risk factor groups and experimental patient and investigate the patient by transvaginal ultrasound and CT or MRI and serum CA-125 in all patients.Patients and methods: In the present study, 50 patients were included attending the Obstetric and Gynecology Outpatient Clinic at Zagazig University Hospital during period from April 210 till November 2011. All patients were admitted in the Zagazig University Hospitals for further investigation and management. They were not divided into subgroups, all patients were subjected to the following: full history taking, general examination, bimanual examination and transvaginal ultrasonography and determination of CA-125 then histopathology.Results: In this study, the sensitivity of TVS was 84% which was also better than pelvic examination. On the other hand, tumour markers have been also used to confirm the diagnosis of malignant adnexal mass. We used CA-125 which had sensitivity of 84% and specificity of 90.5%.Conclusion: CA-125 level and ultrasonography are the best method for diagnosis of malignant tumours. In addition, MRI or CT examination and histological examination result in small improvement in positive value.
