Abstract

Wheat (Triticum aestivum-L.) is one of the main winter cereal crops in Egypt for grain production and straw. It is widely distributed all over the country. Soil salinity is one of the major environmental stresses affecting crop productivity. Effects of salinity on plants vary widely depending on the developmental stage of the plant as well as types and concentrations of salts.Salinity soils became the biggest challengers for human life; about 40% of the world land is threatened with salinization over the world. Multi approaches were urgently needed to get ride of salinity, like select a new salinity resistant plant grains, continuous reclamation of salt-affected soils, chemical treatments of plants and inoculation of the plants with bio-fertilizer salt-tolerant microorganisms. Therefore, aim of the present study is to isolate efficient salt-tolerant associative nitrogen fixed Azospirillum from salt affected soils and using it to increase wheat productivity under salt stress.
