Abstract Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is the most important complication present in the female lower genital tract, causing major medical, social and economic problems. A descriptive study was done,to evaluate risk and protective factors for pelvic inflammatory disease among young women with vulvovaginitis. A selective purposive sample, 215 young women from outpatient clinic in Ain-Shams Maternity University Hospital and Nasser Institute Hospital. Tool of data collection was Arabic structured interviewing questionnaire. It includes four parts; first part including women general characteristics, second part including gynea-obstetric history, medical & surgical history and present history,third part including represented in a knowledge assessment sheet related to women’s knowledge of PID,fourth part including to assess risk behaviors & habits.The results illustrated the majority of the studied sample were practice risky behavior related to personal hygiene especially in perineal care, eating habits, sexuality during infection,don’t follow up during infection. In addition the study confirmed significant relation between socio-demographic characteristics )education), housing condition with risky behavior of PID. In addition to lack women’s knowledge about PID leade to increase risk behavior among young women with vulvovaginitis. It also revealed significant relation between women’s knowledge with education, source of knowledge and risky behavior. Recommendations Awareness raising program must be conducted at gynecological clinic to improve women awareness regarding pelvic inflammatory disease and vulvovagintis. Further studies must be done in larger sample size and different age, special old age women with vulvovaginitis & PID. |
