Abstract
This study examined the impact of garlic powder on some biochemical parameters in male rats of dexamethasone induced gastric ulcer and tries to decrease the undesirable changes of lipid profile and increase prostaglandins precursor by giving of garlic powder solution orally. Forty male Sprague Dawely rats weighting 200g to 250g were used in this study. They were divided into 4 groups (each contains 10 animals), as given below:
1-Group-I (Control group): This group was Fed only normal balanced ration. 2-Group-II (dexamethasone group): This group was Fed only normal balanced ration and was injected subcutaneously with dexamethasone at adose of ,5 mg/kg b.wt. Group-III (garlic group): This group was Fed only normal balanced ration and recieve garlic powder solution by stomach tube at adose of 100mg/kg b.wt. Group-IV: (dexamethasone + garlic group): This group was Fed only normal balanced ration and recieve garlic powder solution by stomach tube at adose of 100mg/kg b.wt. And was injected subcutaneously with dexamethasone at adose of ,5 mg/kg b.wt. By the end of experiment, the blood samples were collected from heart puncture and divided into two parts as follows: a) The first part was used as a heparinized blood (20 IU/ml). This part was centrifuged at 4000 rpm for 15 minutes to separate plasma from erythrocytes. The plasma layer was used for determination of: i) Blood catalase activity. i) Blood glutathione peroxidase activity.B) The second part of the blood sample was used as non-heparinized which is left at room temperature till clotting. The blood samples were centrifuged at 3000rpm for 15 minutes to separate serum samples which is used for determination of:i)Serum Lipid profile (total cholesterol, triacylglycerol , phospholipids LDL-c, VLDL-c and HDL-c.ii)Serum arachidonic acid iii) Serum MDAiv)Serum nitric oxide Also, the stomach was harvested and examined for tissue malondialdehyde (MDA) and histopathological examination using hematoxylin and Eosin stain.The results were summarized as follow:
