Abstract

In the last few years, the telecommunication industries’ development has focused on an intensive use of broadband systems, which are characterized by high quality features. For this issue, new technologies with high transmission abilities have been designed. The broadband wireless access has become the best way to meet escalating business demand for rapid internet connection and integrated triple play services. That is the very base of the WiMAX concept: a wireless transmission infrastructure that allows a fast deployment as well as low maintenance costs. Based on the IEEE 802.16d-2004 standard, WiMAX allows for an efficient use of bandwidth in a wide frequency range, and can be used as a last mile solution for broadband internet access.
Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) will be the killer application for the next-generation. However, to deploy IPTV services with a full QoS. Following the IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard, worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) features high data rates and large service coverage, offering a wireless broadband solution for IPTV services. The performance of QoS of video streaming (IPTV) over WiMAX networks is investigated under different terrain environments, namely Free Space. OPNET is used to investigate the performance of IPTV over WiMAX. This thesis analyzing different network statistics such as (i) End to End delay; (ii) Packet delay variation; (iii) mean opinion score (MOS); (iv) packet loss; and (v) network throughput.
This thesis aims to transmit a multimedia (video) over mobile WiMAX networks and improve the performance of IPTV over WiMAX networks at different power, distances and modulation schemes observing the behavior of this technology depending on routing metrics. This thesis also; present the effect of WiMAX networks on the performance of IPTV networks as a function of number of IPTV connections and IPTV coverage area to increase system capacity and solving the limitation of streaming videos bandwidth by the effect of WiMAX networks.
