Abstract

The effect of inductively coupled plasma nitriding on magnetic properties and structure of iron based alloys hot rolled at 800 ̊C, with chemical compositions of Fe93Ni4Zr3, Fe93Ni4Ti3 and Fe86Cu10Cr4 wt. % was studied. The alloys were prepared by arc-melting of pure metals with nominal purities of 99.99% under argon atmosphere 99.999 % purity. The produced ingots were homogenized at 900 ̊C for two hours in an induction furnace in the argon atmosphere and then hot rolled with about 10 % thickness reduced each time at 800 ̊C to 2 mm thickness. After that, the specimens were divided, grinded and polished into coupons with small dimensions 3×3×0.2 mm.The nitriding processes were done by inductively coupled plasma at different plasma powers varied from 300 to 550 W for 10 min, at frequency 13.56 MHz and constant nitrogen pressure 8×〖10〗^(-2) mbar.
The X-Ray diffraction (XRD) results of as prepared alloys suggested that all the elements Ni, Ti and Cr solute in the body centered cubic lattice of the iron based alloys. Conversely, the elements Cu and Zr showed some segregation in the grain boundaries due to the inadequate solubility
