Abstract

MDCT was introduced in 1998. It is the most recent advance in CT technology. An increased number of detector was rows and more powerful X-ray tubes result in faster scanning time, increased volume coverage, narrower collimation, improved spatial, contrast and temporal resolution, and near isotropic data acquisition compared with SDCT. MDCT technology allows superior image quality and the ability to produce isotropic high quality multiplanar images and to perform complex multiphase vascular and 3D examination.Patients with suspected renal disease are often referred for multiple studies such as EU, US, CT or MRI. Multi-examination work -ups require much patient effort and are expensive. A single imaging test that comprehensively evaluates the urinary system has advantages both in terms of convenience and cost, With MDCT, it has become possible to obtain a large number of very thin section axial overlapping CT images through the entire renal collecting system and the rest of urinary tract in a very short period of time during the excretory phase.
