Abstract

In this work, analysis of some antibiotics (cefotaxime sodium, cefoperazone sodium, ceftazidime pentahydrate, cefdinir, gatifloxacin, erythromycin thiocyanate, clarithromycin and azithromycin dihydrate) was studied.
The aim of this work is to develop, optimize and validate rapid, simple and sensitive methods for determination of the investigated drugs in pure form, in their pharmaceutical formulations and human urine with low cost without losing accuracy and precision.
The investigation includes usefulness of certain spectrophotometric techniques and conductometric techniques.
The thesis consists of six parts:
Part I:
This part demonstrates the molecular structure, physical and pharmacological properties of the studied drugs and also a theoretical basic background review on the previous methods of the assay of the cited drugs.
Part II:
This part describes indirect determination of selected cephalosporins in terms of the sulphide yield from their alkaline degradation. It is divided into 2 chapters:
Chapter (1):
This chapter describes simple spectrophotometric determination of selected cephalosporins in pure form and in pharmaceutical preparations based on reduction of silver – gelatin complex.
Chapter (2):
This chapter describes simple spectrophotometric determination of selected cephalosporins in pure form and in pharmaceutical preparations through a thionine dye formation.
Part III:
This part describes complexation reactions and it is divided into three chapters:
Chapter (1):
This chapter describes simple spectrophotometric determination of cefdinir through chelate formation with Palladium (II) chloride in pure, pharmaceutical dosage forms and human urine.
Chapter (2):
This chapter is concerned with studying the spectrophotometric determination of selected drugs in pure form and in pharmaceutical preparations through ion-pair complex formation with eriochrome black-T.
Chapter (3):
This chapter is concerned with studying the spectrophotometric determination of selected macrolides in pure form and in pharmaceutical preparations through ternary complex formation using rose bengal and Cu(II) chloride.
Part IV:
This part describes the spectrophotometric determination of selected cephalosporins in pure form and in pharmaceutical preparations through redox reaction using N-bromosuccinimide , metol and sulphanilic acid.
