Abstract

In this investigation, three types of bacteriophages (ECP1, ECP2 and ECP3) were isolated from three sewage water samples collected from different locations in El-Sharkia Governorate, Egypt (wastewater treatment plant of 10th of Ramadan, wastewater treatment plant of Hay El-zahor, a branch of Bahr El-bakar canal). By using indicator bacterial host strain (E.coli 1). These indicator bacterial strains were isolated from a raw water sample that was collected from Nile River in El-Sharkia Governorate (Mostorad Canal). Sensitivity of bacterial isolate (E. coli) to antibiotics was studied .The biological and morphological characters of the isolated phages were studied. Also, some physical factors affecting the infectivity of phages were studied. Moreover, storage of the isolated phages at different temperatures has been studied. Finally, Detection of coliphage as indicators of fecal contamination in water was also studied
