Abstract

An outbreak of C. Perferingens in complication with other pathogens was investigated in mixed heard of sheep and goat at Al Gharbiyah provinces, Egypt during late March 2011 to July 2012. Bacteriological and parasitological examination reflects the presence of C. Perferingens in all examined 5 flocks. Pasteurella was isolated from adult goats (flock 4 & 5), while Eimeria was detected in suckling kids< 3 months of age (Flock No.4). Meanwhile the clinical findings, post- mortem and histopathological examination suggestive PPR in suckling kids less than 3 months of age (Flock 1&2) and ovine pulmonary adenomatosis in goat more than1 year old (flock3).The morbidity and mortality rate in suckling kids, infected with C. Perfringens in complication with PPR flock No 1. Out of 76 kids 70 developed clinical signs (92%), and 24 dead (32%). Meanwhile flock No2, out of 16 suckling kids 15 developed clinical signs (94%) and 15 dead (94%). on clinical examination big head, pyrexia , sneezing, coughing, lacrimation, serous- mucopurulent nasal discharge, frothy mouth, diarrhea and conjunctivitis were present. Terminal convulsion, opisthotonus and death were observed. The gross and histopathological findings are reported as erosive, ulcerative stomatitis and necrotic enteritis and presence of inclusion bodies and syncytial cell formation. The pulmonary lesions were necrotic bronchitis, bronchiolitis and broncho-interstitial pneumonia, with edema and pleuritis. Lymphoid tissue showed extensive hemorrhage, edema and acute necrosis, depletation of the lymphoid cells and macrophage cell infiltration in the germinal centers of sinusoid. Interstitial myocarditis, hyalinization of the myocytes and hemorrhages were pronounced. Adult Damascene goat more than1 year infected with C. Perferingens in complication with suggestive ovine pulmonary adenomatosis, out of 5 Damascene goats more than1 year 4 developed clinical signs (80%) and one dead (20%). The clinical finding such as big head, dyspnea with watery exudate is discharged from the nose especially when the head is lowered. Goss findings are reported as the lung was heavy with confluent firm grey lesions. Foamy fluid exuded from the cut surface and air ways. Pathognomonic histopathologic findings in lung as bronchioles showed hyperplastic and neoplastic cells which also form papillary masses entering the adjacent alveoli with adenoma in the bronchial wall and lung parenchyma was noticed. Adult Damascene goat more than1 years old infected with C. Perferingens in complication with pasteurella flock no4, out of 18 goats developed clinical sigs 6 (33%), 3 dead (18%). flock no5, out of 22 goats developed clinical sigs 16 (73%), 8 dead (36%).Big head and pneumonic pasteurellosis are pathognomonic. Suckling Damascene kids less than 3 month of age in flock 4., C. Perferingens in complication with coccidiosis, out of 14 Damascene goat 12 developed clinical signs (84%) , dead 6 (43%). Clinical findings are big head, pyrexia and diarrhea. Gross findings revealed, congestion, edema and wide spread petechial hemorrhages and ecchymosis of mucosa of intestine. Histopathological finding include necrotic enteritis with large number of necrosed epithelial cells and hyperplasia of remaining epithelium in which Eimeria in different stages of schizogony.
