Abstract Psoriasis is a genetic-based common chronic, recurrent, immune mediated disease that affects 2-3% of the world population. It is a chronic, inflammatory, hyper proliferative disease, with severe impact on the quality of the patient’s life. It is characterized usually by red, scaly plaques that infections, stress, alcohol and some medications can worsen it. It can improve and worsen over time, but it usually does not go away completely. Genetics and environmental factors may play an important role in the pathogenesis of the disease. While topical therapy, phototherapy, oral systemic therapy and biologic agents have been used, the treatment of psoriasis still remains a challenge. Psoriasis treatment guidelines based on a better understanding of its pathology and they currently aim to target as many pathogenetic factors as possible. There is great tendency nowadays to achieve best results of psoriatic treatment with least side effects. Curcumin is a polyphenolic compound isolated from the rhizome of the plant Curcuma longa, which has traditionally been used in the Treatment of inflammation and cancer. Recent studies have demonstrated promise in the use of curcumin for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. |
