Abstract IUGR is one themost common and complex problems in modern obstetrics. This characterization isunderstandableconsideringpoor detection rate, limitedpreventive or treatment options, multipleassociated morbidities, and increased likelihood of perinatal mortality associatedwith IUGR. Suboptimal growth at birth islinked with impaired intellectual performanceanddiseasessuchashypertensionandobesity in adulthood. Current challenges in the clinical managementof IUGR include accurate diagnosis ofthe truly growth-restricted fetus, selection ofappropriate fetal surveillance, and optimizingthe timing of delivery.Despite the potentialfor a complicated course, antenataldetection of IUGR and its antepartum surveillance can improve outcomes The purpose of this essay is to synthesize andassess the strength of evidence of the currentliterature regarding the use of Doppler velocimetryof the umbilical artery, middle cerebralartery, and ductus venosus for non-anomalousfetuses with suspected IUGR,and to provide recommendations regardingantepartum management of these pregnancies |
