Abstract
Aim of Work
Poly (Af mRNA from S. mansoni adult worms was used to
construct eDNA expression library in lambda-gtll expression vector.
Protective antiserum from a rabbit immunized with irradiated cercariae
was used to irnmunoscreen the eDNA library. Several clones expressing
antigens recognized by protective antisera had been isolated. Our goal is
to identify one of the schistosome antigens recognized by this protective
antiserum; and characterize its ability to induce protection against
schistosomiasis.
Characterization will contain:
1- Nucleic acid determination and the deduction of the amino acid
sequence.
2- Comparison of the deduced protein sequence \>.’ith otht.:r protem
sequences in gene data base.
3- Southern blotting to determine gene copy number.
4- Northern blotting to evaluate mRNA expression.
5- Evaluation of the recombinant protein as a protectivC
