Abstract A total of 270 unsexed one – day old (Arbor – Acres) broiler chicks were used to study the effect of supplementation of different levels of Nigella sativa, Natuzyme and their mixture on growth performance, carcass characteristics, blood plasma constituents, nutrients digestibility and economical efficiency of broiler chicks under local environmental conditions. Chicks were weighed and randomly distributed and divided equally into 9 dietary treatment groups nearly similar in average body weight (38 g). Each group was represented by birds in 3 replicates of 10 chicks each and kept under similar management conditions. Powder Nigella sativa and /or Natuzyme were added in the basal diet (starter and finisher) as follows: treatment 1: basal diet (control, without any supplementation), treatments from 2 to 9 were (basal diet + 2% Nigella sativa L),( basal diet + 4% Nigella sativa L.), (basal diet + 0.03% Natuzyme), (basal diet + 0.05% Natuzyme), (basal diet + 2% Nigella sativa L. +0.03% Natuzyme), (basal diet + 2% Nigella sativa L. + 0.05% Natuzyme), ( basal diet + 4% Nigella sativa L. + 0.03% Natuzyme) and ( basal diet + 4%, Nigella sativa L. + 0.05% Natuzyme), respectively and were fed to their respective groups of broiler chicks. Feed conversion, performance index, dressing and giblets percentages, digestibility coefficient of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, ether extract and crude fiber, ash retention and dietary nutritive values were significantly (P ≤ 0.05) improved by mixed levels of powdered Nigella sativa and Natuzyme mixture supplement. Nigella sativa or Natuzyme supplementation significantly (P ≤ 0.05) increased plasma total protein, albumin, globulin and liver enzymes (ALT and AST); while, total cholesterol concentration was significantly (P ≤ 0.05) decreased in blood plasma. Plasma calcium and phosphorus concentrations were significantly (P ≤ 0.05) increased by adding dietary Nigella sativa and Natuzyme mixture in broiler diets at 49 day of age compared to the control diet. Data indicated the beneficial economical effect of adding dietary Nigella sativa and Natuzyme mixture in broiler diets, especially at treatment 7 (control + 2% Nigella seeds + 0.05% Natuzyme) without any adverse effects under our experimental conditions. |
