Abstract

Semiconductors with nano-sized structures are exciting topic of research due to their outstanding size dependent optical properties . The excellent optical properties of semiconductors make them attractive for different applications, such as biological labels, solar cells, photodetectors and light emitting devices. There are lots of researches concerned with the preparation of semiconductor nanoparticle with different sizes and with factors that influence their properties . In particular , the colloidal chemistry approach to luminescent nanoparticle fabrication has been favored due to its relative ease and high size tenability.
In this work, the synthesis of Cds quantum dots was achieved through chemical method using and without using capping agent . Cadmium sulfide (CdS ) is one of II-VI semiconductor compounds that in its nanoscale size has attracted a lot of attention due to its many important optoelectronic applications and the fact that various properties like optical, electrical and chemical can be turned by varing particle size .
The present thesis comprises five main chapters in addition to the list of figures, tables, English and Arabic summaries as well as relevant references.
