Abstract

To investigate the effect of bleaching agent and topical fluorideapplication on the surface roughness and bacterial adherence to glazed and polished two veneering ceramic material. Materials and methods: a total of 60 veneering ceramics discs were constructed using specially designed mold. The samples were classified according to the type of ceramics into two equal groups, each group was further subdivided into two equal subgroups according to the surface finish (glazed / polished). Each sub-group was further divided according to treatment method into three divisions (control/fluoridated /bleached). All samples were subjected to surface roughness and bacterial adherence tests. The surface roughness was measured using Scope Capture Digital Microscope with a built-in camera. The bacterial adherence count of each sample was carried out with a light microscope with a built-in camera. Results: bleaching significantly increase surface roughness and bacterial adherence count of all tested groups when compared to untreated groups. While Topical fluoride application significantly increase surface roughness and bacterial adherence count of all tested groups except glazed e.max veneering ceramic when compared to untreated groups. Conclusions: 1- Type of veneering ceramic and surface finishing techniques showed no effect on the surface roughness.2- Bleaching and topical fluoride application increase surface roughness and bacterial adherence count of all tested groups when compared to untreated groups.
