Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate and compare the retention rate, bond strength, water sorption and water solubility of Embrace wetbond sealant (Pulpdent Corporation) verse Clinpro sealant (3M ESPE). Materials& Methods: Fifty children 5-7 years old with sound and fully erupted1st permanent molars participated in this study to compare sealant retention rate. A split mouth technique was applied; treated teeth were clinically checked at 3, 6 and 9 months postoperatively. For comparing water sorption ten discs of both materials 10 mm in diameter and 2.0 mm in thickness were prepared using a split Teflon ring. The prepared discs were stored in a dessicator before weighting using a digital balance. Discs were stored in distilled water at 37oC. Water sorption was monitored daily (1st seven days), tenth day and weekly until two successive fixed weight were reached. Water solubility was calculated as percent weight loss in a specimen stored in water. Micro-shear test was used to evaluate bond strength of both materials. Results: No statistically significant difference regarding in satisfactory retention was found between both sealants at the first and the last follow up interval periods while Clinpro sealant showed higher percent of successfully retained sealaent after six months of follow up. Embrace Wetbond sealant showed statistically significant higher percent of water solubility than Clinpro sealant. Clinpro sealant showed better micro-shear bond strength than Embrace Wetbond sealant.
