Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of adding a prepared hydroxyapatite/chitosan/silver nanocomposite powder on compressive strength, shear bond strength with dentin and antibacterial activity of conventional glass ionomer restorative material. Hydroxyapatite/chitosan nanocomposite was prepared with different ratios 85/15, 70/30, 50/50 and 30/70 using co-precipitation method. The resulting powder was characterized using TEM to confirm the reached nanosize of its particles and IR analysis for analyzing its chemical structure. The prepared powder was added to a conventional glass ionomer powder by 3 and 5 wt%. The different groups were subjected to three experimental tests (compressive strength, shear bond strength with dentin and antibacterial activity). The most acceptable hydroxyapatite/chitosan nanocomposite ratio that improved properties of the cement was selected to be modified by incorporation of silver to the nanocomposite. The prepared hydroxyapatite/chitosan/silver nanocomposite powder was characterized by TEM and IR analysis. Prepared naocomposite powder was added to glass ionomer by 3 and 5 wt%. The modified groups were subjected three experimental tests (compressive strength, shear bond strength with dentin and antibacterial activity). |
