Abstract Low quality roughageespecially the crop residues form an im:9ortant source of energy for r1111inan·t;s in many developing countries where crop production has priority over feedstuff production • These residues pose a disQosal problem, The recent trends of exploiting the energy value of the crop residues and enrici:J.ing tuair ni”Grogen content, received much of consideration. Urea is considered the cheapest sources of nitrogen whicb. could be used to compensate for part of the limited sources of available na·<;ural protein in .c.gypt • Available technical rt>ports estic:ates tr1e a.Iaount of low quality roughages in Egypt by about eleven million tons annually. Such reports revealed that a promising advantage exist for these roughages to covel’ t;i::co ::;twrtage of ani;;zal feed resources in .b;gypt. The enrichment witn urea is expected to increase feed intake from poor quality roughae;es. Howc.ver, the energy sources in rations containing urea should be considered in order to improve the effi~ency of utilization • It is alcost; -t;rue ti:la”G tt1~ nature of the fibrous constituen- t; could affect to a large extent the efficiency and tne extent of response to urea enrichment. Therefore, rice straw one of the most available roughages was subjected to treatllient with urea solution an~ suppleillented with different energy sources. The aim being test and find outthe possible effects of these factors on feed intake with its effect on the efficiency a~d utiliLation. |
