Abstract The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of some management practices on goat productivity. Two experimental studies were done to investigate the effect of I) Vitamin E or/ plus selenium. II) Organic mineral mixture with wheat bran or starch supplementation during late gestation on the performance and immune state of goats (Baladi, Damuscus, Zarabi) and their kids. First experiment animals (n=72) classified into four groups (n=18/group). Group 1st kept as control. Animals of group 2nd, 3rd and 4th were received four injections (twice before parturition and twice after parturition) of vitamin E, selenium and vitamin E plus selenium respectively. The results revealed that kids of treated groups had higher significant kid’s birth weight and kid’s rectal temperature and kid’s weaning weight with insignificant positive effect on dam’s body weight. In addition, the immune status of treated goats and their kids significantly higher than untreated goats. Second experiment animals (n=54) classified into three groups (n=18/group), Group 1st kept as control. Animals of group 2nd and 3rd were supplemented (thirty days before parturition and extend for 15 days after parturition) with mineral mixture plus starch and mineral mixture plus bran respectively. The results revealed that kids of mineral mixture plus bran treated goats had higher significant kid’s birth weight and kid’s rectal temperature and kid’s weaning weight. Also, kids of mineral mixture plus starch treated goats showed higher significant rectal temperature than kids of control group. In addition, the globulin level of goats’ serum in treated groups was highly significant when compared with control with no significant difference in globulin level of kids’ serum between treated and untreated groups. |
