Abstract

The heart develops early during pregnancy. Its cells
gradually develops to perform their functions. This work
aimed at studying the histological changes of the heart (by light
and scanning electron microscopes) during development in normal
albino rat heart and after injection of cisplatin, hydrocortisone or
both drugs to the pregnant and adult female rats.
In this study, 150 rat embryos and 50 female adult rats were
used. They were divided as follows:
Control Group:
• 15 embryos at ages of 10 days, 18 days and full term
(5 embryos each age).
• 5 adult female rats.
Experimental group:
• 135 embryos. They were obtained from pregnant
mothers injected with either cisplatin (at the first and
seventh day of pregnancy), hydrocortisone (every other
day) or both drugs (were also injected using the same
regimen). 45 embryos were obtained from the three
subgroups The hearts were taken and examined at
ages of 10 days, 18 days and full term (15 embryos
each).
