Abstract Renal artery embolization is an effective minimally invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment, palliation, and prevention of a variety of conditions. The main indications for renal artery embolization include: renal hemorrhage (life-threatening or chronic debilitating hematuria), preoperative infarction of renal tumors, treatment of renal angiomyolipomas (AMLs), vascular malformations and complication following renal transplantation. This technique can be adapted as superselective, partial and complete embolization, depending on the indication. The aim of this work is to assess the role of selective transarterial embolization of renal artery in the treatment of different renal lesions. This study was carried out at interventional unit, radiology department, Urology & Nephrology center –Mansoura University throughout the period from October 2011 to January 2014. The present study included 31 patients, 19 of them were male while 12 of them were female. The age of our selected patients ranged from 4 to 63 years with a mean of 39.3 years. In the current study, 19 patients had post traumatic renal bleeding, 8 patients had bleeding renal AMLs, 3 patients were referred for preoperative infarction of gross renal tumors (with tumor diameter more than 8cm) 24 hours before nephrectomy and one patient had renal arteriovenous malformation. |
