Abstract Biennial bearing, i.e., alternate yea1 cropping of certQin fruit plants is a pr oblem of great economic importance in commerical fruit gro .. ing orchards allover the world. Trees ·,.hich ho.ve acquired this biennial rhythm carry a heavy crop in one year (called the ” on” year) and followed by a little or no crop in the next (the ”off” year). The fruits of the ”on” year tend to be overcrowded, small ana of poor qmlity while the few fruits tho.t are formed in an ”off” yeQT <.re usually above normal size anu often relatively too large. Biennio.l bearing has been reported by severo.l workers in many Kinds of fruits. In A.R.E., it is especially serious in mand<J.rin trees through it is also serious in certain fruits of other tree species. This work was origin:..lly conducted to evaluate possible caues for the alternate bearing phenomenon. This study m ay shed more light o n facing such phenomenon from the academic ana applic:.ttion points of view. Thus, the nutrit ional status of the ”Balady” mndarin tree (macro & micro elements and charbohydrates), beside the endogenous hormons content during th e period of flower formation was studied.- 2 - In addition, the effect of ringing and defoliation of shoots and GA3 appliction on the flowering percentage anu bearing behaviour was also investigated. |
