Abstract

The present research investigates production of polypropylene (PP) and polypropylene 10% fiber glass matrix composites using the injection molding method. The matrix material was PP and the reinforcement material was steel wires of diameters 0.5, 0.85 and 1.5mm. The effect of adding the steel wires on the mechanical properties of the products was studied by carrying out the compression and bending tests.
The injection equipment was designed by SolidWorks design and simulation tool
The effect of the number of steel wires was studied at all wires diameter. Also the effect of the orientation of steel wires was studied. The first batch of specimens was reinforced with wires on the inner curriculum (1/3) from the center. The second batch was reinforced with wires on the outer curriculum (2/3) from the center. The third batch was reinforced with the half of wires on the outer and half on the inner.
After the mechanical tests a model for the composites was prepare for bending and compression test to verification the result Furthermore, the wear resistance of the produced composites has been studied using pin-on-disk.
