Abstract

Eggplant is one of the most vegetable crops in Egypt, Eggplant is subject to infection by root rot diseases and root-knot nematode. These pathogenic pathogens negatively affect the quality and quantity of eggplant production. The objective of this study was summarized the pathogenic effects of soil born fungi and root-knot nematode and their combination. In survey study the highest percentage of root rot and root-knot nematode disease incidence and disease severity was observed in El-Khatara Project. Pathogenic organisms were isolated from sample collection and identified isolated fungal genera i.e. Fusarium solani (Mart.) Sacc, Rhizoctonia solani Kühn and root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid&White) Chitwood that proved their pathogenicty giving ideal disease symptoms.Interaction between Meloidogyne incognita and isolated pathogenic fungi revealed the significant increasing in infection percentage and reduction in shoot weight, root weight as plant growth parameters. Also reduction in theplant pigments including chlorophyll a, b and carotien, as well as, increasing in the activity of peroxidase was also recorded. In vitro assay, Trichoderma harzianum the impact on mycelial growth reduction percentage of pathogenic fungi using two media namely potato dextrose agar (PDA) and gleotoxin fermentation media (GFM) was studied. GFM culture filtrate showed the highest reduction percentage of both tested fungi compared with PDA medium while Trichoderma album and F.solani and R.solani reduced numbers of egg hatching and juvenile mortality. Moreover, garlic extract revealed the best reduction percent against F.solani and R. solani mycelia growth, while neem extract was the most effective on hatching and juvenile mortality. The highest percentage reduction of F. solani was confirmed by Topsin- M of all tested concentrations followed by Rhizolex-T, also Furadan nematicide was the most impact one on hatching inhibition and juvenile mortality followed by Mocap nematicide. In vivoassays, commercial`s biocides (Plant guard and Rhizo-N), neem, garlic extract, as well as,fungicide Topsin- M and Furadan nematicide achieved marked reduction in root rot infection and recorded the lowest number of galls and egg masses. This effect was their influence in the rate of the photosynthesis pigment construction and the secretion of oxidative enzymes in plant tissue.
