Abstract

XXABSTRACT
MAGDY ABLELLA TIF AFIFI GOUDA. Structural, lithological and
metallogenic contribution to the Wadi Atalla-Wadi Abu-Ziran area, Central
Eastern Desert, Egypt, using aerospectrometric and aeromagnetic survey
data. A thesis submitted to Geophysics Department, Faculty of Science, Ain
Shams University for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Applied Geophysics),
1998.
The present work is an attempt to utilize the airborne gamma-ray
radiospectrometric and magnetic survey data-as the main sources of informationto
come out with a consistent integrated interpretation concerning the
identification and outlining of the probable radioactive provinces and their
relation to the structural framework and surface lithology in the area of
W Atalla-W. Abu-Ziran, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt. This could be obtained
by searching for areas of anomalously high concentrations of uranium and/or
thorium, which could be favourable sites for potential economic radioactive
mineralized zones. The defining of significant radioactive anomalies has been
performed by two ways. The first one is by calculation of the significant factor
(threshold) of the aerospectrometric data for each interpreted radiometric
lithologic (IRL) unit. The second way is by examining the stacked profiles for
regions of high eU, eU/eTh and eU/K.
Regional remapping of the outcropping basement complex was carried out
through the application of factor analysis technique, using the provided seven
aeroradiospectrometric variables. This would permit the elucidation and outlining
of various IRL units and compute their characteristic statistics. Besides, the
degree ofremobilization of uranium in each rock type is shown as reflected from
the trend variations of uranium and thorium with their ratios. Furthermore,
uranium favourability indices were calculated for the different IRL units in the
study area.
