Abstract Miconazole is an imidazole antifungal, and commonly applied topically to the skin or mucus membrane to cure fungal infections. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a critical component of fungal cell membranes. The formulation of mucoadhesive miconazole buccal spray liquid may be advantageous to overcome rapid loose of drug due to the flushing action of saliva, the non uniform distribution of drug within saliva upon release from the semisolid delivery system. The present study aims mainly to formulate Miconazole as a buccal spray liquid to be applied on the buccal mucosa as a mucoadhesive polymeric film. According to biopharmaceutical classification system, Miconazole is categorized as class II drug due to its poor solubility and high permeability. The study will be directed to enhance and optimize thedrug solubility in the designed formulations. |
