Abstract The present work deals with the isomerisation of alkyl naphthalenes, to determine the orienation of the alkyl groups and the proporation of each of the possille isomers. the mechanism of the process has been discussed in detail. Isomerisation was carried out under the influence of two different catalysts, namely, anhydrous aluminium chloride and toluene-p-sulphonic acid. By comparing the isomeric distributions obtainad under the influence of the two catalysts, it was found that the former catalyst was more effective than the latter during the isomerisation process. |
