Abstract
1. The present work deals mainly with systematic studies of the different taxa of the genus Launaea in Egypt. Twelve species including 14 taxa are proved to occur in Egypt of which L. acanthodes is new record to the flora of Egypt and L. fragilis subsp. tenuiloba Zareh & Mohamed is newly combined.
2. The systematic revision, morphological characters, achenes macro- and micro-morphology and chromosome characters, as well as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were studied.
3. The revision is based on the collection of ASTU, CAI and CAIM; as well as on field studies. A detailed description for each taxon is given, which is based on distinct morphological characters. Nomenclature, literature, types, synonyms and an original key to the taxa is given. The numerical analysis was applied for clarifying the phylogenetic relationships among the taxa under investigation and a map showing its distribution in Egypt and a list of the examined specimens is cited.
