Abstract

Some toxicological studies on one of Euphorbia species on Albino Rat.
Family Euphorbiaceae comprises over 7500 species growing in nearly all types of climates throughout the world. The wide spread of plants of the genus Euphorbia are rich source of sterols, flavonoids, diterpenoids, and triterpenes with divers structures.
Euphorbia peplus is originally native to Europe and North Africa. This plant used for the treatment of skin cancers and the active compounds have been determined to be diterpene esters.
The present study was carried out to illustrate the toxic effect of crude extract of Euphorbia peplus on male fertility, serum level of reproductive hormones ”testosterone and LH” in albino rats.
Effect of crude extract of euphorbia peplus on liver enzymes and total protein, serum level of antioxidant enzymes ’superoxide dismutase and glutathione reductase.
Effect of crude extract of euphorbia peplus on testicular and liver tissue DNA fragmentation and histopathological examination on reproductive organs, accessory glands and liver.
For this purpose, thirty mature male albino rats were divided into 3 groups; ten animals in each.
The first group kept as the negative control group that didn’t take any treatment (negative control group).
The second group kept as placebo group that was orally treated with the dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) two times per week for 65 days.
