Abstract CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Coastal Engineering is the collective term encompassing most of the engineering activities related to works along the coasts and recently has encompassed of~shore structures as well. This branch of science has a complicating feature since it deals with many independant variables with stochastic nature. Thus statistical computations are involved to choose the optimum design techniques to most of the coastal engineering problems. Coastal Engineering is divided into three main divisions: 1. Harbors: which deal with the design of harbors’ constituents. 2. Off-shore engineering: The primary stimulus for off. shore engineering has companies. come from the petroleum 3. Coastal morphology: is the study of the interaction of waves on the coast. The present analysis is a study to one of the most important harbor constituents. It deals with the interaction of waves with the rubble mound. The main theme of this thesis, is the energy dissipation by rubble mound and the choice of an optimum breakwater suiting the displayed conditions thus the action of waves on the coast is reduced and the beach is protected as possible. -1.1- |
