Abstract

Nowadays with Egypt participation in general agreement tariffs trade (GATT), cut flowers and cut leaves are considered two of the most important products for export to foreign and local markets because of their importance as a source of National income.
There are several fundamental factors of the deterioration and death of fresh cut flowers. Anything that florists do to prolong their vase life will be related to one or more of the basic factors:
a- The exhaustion of respairable substrates.
b- Desiccation or wilting during cut.
c- Maturation and continued development of the flowers.
d- Ravages of diseases.
e- Ethylene injury.
f- Fading of flower color or color changes
This work was postulated to study the effect of preservative solutions on the possibility of keeping chrysanthemum morifolium, Ram. cv ”Flyer’’ cut flowers fresh for along time. Flowers were obtained from a trade nursery supported in Giza. Two experiments were performed at ”Ornamentals Plants Laboratory, Mansoura University” during the two successive seasons of 2010/2011 and 2011/2012. A simple complete randomized design with three replicates was conducted. chrysanthemum morifolium, Ram. cv ”Flyer’’ cut flowers. Graduated cylinders were filled with several used substances combinations
from the results of the this study, it can be stated that cut flowers are affected by several factors which lead to wilting and loss of freshness and quality for marketing, which will eventually reach a full death of flowers and los without return.
Following some instructions it can maintain in the case of cut flowers fresh for a longer period with solutions and recommended to save the flowers chrysanthemum morifolium, Ram. cv ” Flyer ” in preservation solutions containing silver nitrate( 75ppm AgNO3+150ppm citric acid+3 or 5%sucrose)
which recorded the best results to increase the vase live, Conservation and to ensure greater economic return for the cultivation of flowers for marketing locally or for export purposes.
