Abstract

Forty impactions presented in 32 patient of unilateral impacted tooth and 4 patients of bilateral impacted tooth were included in this study and divided into two equal groups; the prednisolone group and control group. All patients in both groups were representing a common pool of similar classification of category of cases and were selected with equal blind distribution in each group to provide a harmonious case distribution. Group I: consisted of 20 impactions presented in 16 patient of unilateral impacted tooth and only one side of 4 patients of bilateral impacted tooth. Ten minutes before surgery, every patient was received Ibuprofen 400mg tablet and 30mg Glucocorticoid in a single. Group Π: consisted of 20 impactions presented in 16 patient of unilateral impacted tooth and only one side of 4 patients of bilateral impacted tooth. Ten minutes before surgery, every patient was received only Ibuprofen 400mg tablet.
from the results of this study we can conclude that:
Considering corticosteroid drawbacks, the use of 30 mg single dose prednisolone combined with NSAIDs (400 mg Ibuprofen) versus Ibuprofen 400 mg alone appear to be safe and effective in reducing postoperative clinical sequelae of third molar surgery when anticipated extensive postoperative complications are relevant to estimated surgical difficulty.
