Abstract

Abstract
Premature Ovarian Failure (POF) is the occurrence of amenorrhea before the age of forty in conjunction with raised level of follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) above 40mIU/ml affecting approximately 0.9% -3% of the female population. POF accounts for 10%-28% of primary amenorrhea and 4%-18% of secondary amenorrhea. Although Turner syndrome and gonadal dysgenesis are the best known causes of POF, however in 46XX karyotype female presenting with POF, the etiology is most often unknown. VIT B12 (also known as Cyanocobalamine) is one the eight B vitamins essentially required for cellular integrity and maturation by affecting DNA synthesis and regulation. VIT B12 has great impact on female fertility and fecundity. It is implicated in oocyte maturation and quality improvement, increasing level of mid-luteal progesterone, regulation of the menstrual cycle and achieving pregnancy early. On the other hand VIT B12 deficiency is implicated in sub fertility and miscarriage.
