Abstract This study carried out to investigate the prevalence of trematodal and cestodal infections in Clarias gariepinus and Oreochromis niloticus. The isolated parasites were identified as: in Oreochromis niloticus; the Cichlidogyrus arthracanthus, Cichlidogyrus longicornis longicornis, Cichlidogyrus tilapiae, Cichlidogyrus aegypticus, Cichlidogyrus tubicirrus magnus and Enterogyrus cichlidarum whileas Clarias gariepinus isolated Quadriacanthus aegypticus and Macrogyrodactylus clarii as monogenean infections. Clarias gariepinus infected with the digeneans; Emoleptalea sp., (from intestine), Phyllodistomum sp., (from kidney) as new records in Egypt, Orientocreadium batrachoides, Orientocreadium lazeri, Astiotrema reniferum, Paramacroderoides echinus and Eumasenia aegypticus. Encysted metacercariae of digenetic trematodes recorded as Prohemistomum vivax and Mesostephanus sp., in both Clarias gariepinus and Oreochromis niloticus, whileas, Centrocestus formosanus, Clinostomum tilapiae, Clinostomum complanatum, Euclinostomum heterostomum, Euclinostomum ardeolae, Posthodiplostomum sp., Bolbophorus levantinus and other diplostomatid metacercariae in Oreochromis niloticus were isolated. On the other hand, experimental feeding infections of laboratory animals; rats and mice with unidentified encysted metcercariae from revealed; Prohemistomum vivax, Mesostephanus burmanicus and Mesostephanus appendiculatus as adult flukes. Proteocephalus sp., Polyonchobothrium clarias, Polyonchobothrium sp., and Monobothrioides as well as immature stages of cestodes recovered from Clarias gariepinus. Clinical signs, postmortem examination, hematological, serological and histological investigations of infected fish were recorded. |
