Abstract

The process of separation and cleaning of the most important operations after the harvest of agricultural crops has been a study on the corn and bean crops because of their great importance.
The aim of the present study is to investigate the engineering parameters affecting the separation of corn seed and bean seed and study also the physical and mechanical properties of corn and bean seeds to obtain better cleaning efficiency and less losses. Physical properties of corn and bean seeds such as length(L) , width (W) , thickness (T) , volume (V) , geometric diameter(Dg) , arithmetic diameter (Da) , percentage of sphericity (S) , transverse surface area (At) , flat surface area (Af) , bulk density(Bd) true density (Td), moisture content (Mc), and mass of 1000-seeds(km) were examined and determined. Were tested and assessed Engineering parameters such as air speed, sieve diameter, sieve oscillation and feed rate, were also studied and determined.
-Also, to study some parameters affecting separation and cleaning unit such four different feed rates of 30, 60, 120 and 180 kg/h., two different mesh hole sizes diameter of 10.86 and 13.52 mm., three different sieve oscillation of 185 , 200, 225 and 260 rpm and three different air velocity0.675 ,1.025 ,1.8 and 2.375 m/s.
-The higher seed corn was 99.73 % and higher separation efficiency While bean seed 98.37 %, higher corn seed cleaning was99.94% While bean 99.75% And so in the ranges losses (0.12 to 3.75%) in corn while bean seed the ranges losses (0.62 to 6.62%) were reached using vibration frequency of 225 rpm, mesh hole size of 13.52 mm, feed rate of 30 kg/h and air velocity 2.375 m/s. While a lower efficiency was at the sieve speed185 rpm , air speed of 0.675 m / s , sieve diameter10.86mm and feed rate 180 kg / h and top seed lost when the same transactions.
