Abstract Bronchiolitis is the most common lower respiratory tract infection in infants. Virtually all children have been exposed to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the cause of most bronchiolitis cases, by their second birthday. Up to 3% of all children are hospitalized with bronchiolitis in their first year of life. The diagnosis of bronchiolitis is based primarily on typical history and results of a physical examination. The aim of the work is to study the role of nebulized hypertonic saline solution 3% in acute bronchiolitis. This study was conducted on 150 children with acute bronchiolitis Patients were divided into 2 groups: Group I: 100 patients with acute bronchiolitis treated with hypertonic saline 3%, with mean age 22.05 ± 21.43 weeks, 67 patients were males & 33 patients were females, 7 patients had positive family history of allergy & 93 patients had negative family history of allergy. Group II: 50 patients with acute bronchiolitis treated with normal saline 0.9%, with mean age 18.71 ± 20.76 weeks, 30 patients were males & 20 patients were females, 5 patients had positive family history of allergy & 45 patients had negative family history of allergy.Group I & Group II were enrolled from Pediatric Department Banha University (Inpatient) and Shibin El Kom Teaching hospital and during the period from November 2012 to February 2014. |
