Abstract

Numerous methods have been suggested for treating zygomatico complex maxillary fracture. These range from non intervention and observation to open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF).
The most important principle in treating fractures, especially those of the face, is proper reduction. If the bone is not placed into the correct position, stabilization becomes difficult. This study was designed to evaluate clinically and radiologically the use of Carroll-Girard T-bar Screw versus zygoma hook in the reduction of zygomatico-maxillary complex fractures.
Patients were divided equally into two groups:
• Group A (study)
In this group zygomatico-maxillary complex fracture was reduced using Carroll-Girard T-bar Screw.
• Group B (control)
In this group zygomatico-maxillary complex fracture was reduced using the zygoma hook.
All cases were followed intra operatively, clinically and radiographically. Clinical assessment was done through clinical photography, while radiographic assessment through axial and coronal CT cuts to determine zygomatic complex projection and zygomatic complex height.
Results showed that good clinical and radiographic results in both groups. However there was no statistically significant difference between both groups.
