Abstract the one-stage is design for a desalination unit using flash evaporation at atmospheric pressure and low temperature is investigated. the evaporation chamber is introduced inside the condensing chamber. the heat source used for heating brackish water is obtained from an electrical heater First Case or thermal storage energy with 1 m solar collector Second Case. the experimental setup is study the effect of temperature and mass flow rate of heating brackish water, flow rate of cooling water and operating time on the productivity, energy consumption and efficiency of the unit. the results show that the performance of the system is strongly affected by the temperature and mass flow rate of water heated. the unit starts to output fresh water after ten minutes of operation and becomes steadly about fifteen minutes later. the temperature and mass flow rate of brackish water arre 75C and 408LPM. the maximum water productivity, system efficiency ; energy consumption is 2.95 lit/h, 85% and 1.22kg/k Wh respectively. in second case, the unit is tested on cold and hot days. within the studied ranges, the maximum productivity reached to 9 L/day m and efficiency is about 87% at t hi,av = 58c and and 4.8LPM for brackish water. according to these results, fresh water production of the present system is higher than HDH desalination system in the previous studies. total dissolved solids TDS of brackish water after desalination is 40 ppm in two cases first and second. |
