Abstract

This investigation was carried out during the two successive seasons of 2011/2012and 2012/2013 at the private Farm of Sammenoud, Gharbieh Governorate to investigate the effect of water stress treatments (plants irrigated every 15, 30 and 45 days), two form of biofertilization(included bacteria Phosphorien (1kg/fed) or included Mycorrhizae fungi 50 g / plant)distributed randomly and foliar spray with plant extracts (Aloe and Garlic) at 75 % as well as their interaction on some vegetative growth parameters, essential oil production in addition to chemical compositions of sage (Salvia officinalis L.) plants. Seeds were sown in nursery beds prepared on October 15th in the both seasons. The growing seedlings were transplanted after 80 days from sowing at 30 cm apart in an irrigated soil. Sage plants were harvested twice yearly. The first cut was carried out in the 15th of May (at commencement of flowering), while the second one was done four months after the first cut. The experiment included 18 treatments arranged in split–split plot design with 3 replicates The obtained results can be summarized as following:.I Effect of water stress, bio fertilizers, plant extracts and their interaction on some vegetative growth parameters of sage plant: The interaction treatment of irrigation plants every 30 days and inoculated with Mycrohizae fungi plus spraying with garlic extract induced the highest values in all vegetative parameters compared to all other interaction treatments at the two cuts in the both seasons. II. Effect of water stress, bio fertilizers, plant extracts and their interaction on essential oil production and components of sage plant:The interaction treatment of irrigation plants every 30 days and inoculated with Mycrohizae fungi plus spraying with garlic extract induced the highest values of essential oil (%) and content compared to all other interaction treatments at the two cuts in both seasons. The interaction treatment of irrigation plants every 30 days and inoculated with Mycrohizae fungi plus spraying with garlic extract resulted in the highest values of (thujone - α-pinene - β-pinene – camphene - linalool) the main components.III.Effect of water stress, bio fertilizers, plant extracts and their interaction on chemical constituents of sage plant:The interaction treatment of irrigation plants every 30 days and inoculated by Mycrohizae fungi plus spraying with garlic extract induced the highest values of the chlorophyll a, b, phenolic compounds, total carbohydrates, nitrogen compared to all other interaction treatments, while the highest values of the phosphorus and potassium percentages were recorded in the plants irrigated every 15 days and inoculated by Mycrohizae fungi plus spraying with garlic extract at the two cuts in both seasons. RECOMMENDATIONUnder the conditions of this experiment, irrigating sage plants every 30 days and inoculated by Mycrohizae fungi plus spraying with garlic extract could be recommended to obtain the best results of plant height, plant fresh and dry weights, essential oil percentage, content and components as well as chemical constituents (chlorophyll, phenolic compounds total carbohydrates and nitrogen content.
