Abstract The present study is conducted to characterize the differences among the autogenous and anutogenous Ae. caspius forms which are morphologically indistinguishable but differ in biology and behavior. Polymerease chain reaction was performed with the genomic DNA of Ae. caspius mosquitoes as the template for the identification of the members of the Ae. caspius complex. The two primers produced two different unique DNA fragments through agarose gel electrophoresis which quietly enable the differentiation of genetically distinct Ae. caspius forms. The amplified product for the autogenous form lies in-between (300-400 bp) and the anautogenous form lies in-between (400-500 bp). |
